Today's Style Inspiration.....

So today's style was inspired by the ever so lovely Jean Seberg who most would be surprised to learn was actually an American actress although she was best known for her french films. I love how she was able to wear her short crop with masculine inspired clothing and still look feminine. I picked out this look above, mainly because of it's simplicity and effortless look it demonstrates. Here are some modern pieces that I put together that gave a nod to this iconic look.....

I pulled out one of my many plaid shirts from my closet.... remember when these were all the hype two falls ago??? Well reuse them!!!!

I pulled on a gray v neck sweater on top of the plaid shirt and pinned a flower brooch on the vest... just for a bit of flair

To balance out the layering on top I went with a dark wash skinny jean....

Then I finished off the look with a pair of black flats... which I have been favoring a lot lately.

Today's Style Inspiration.....

So today's style inspiration came from the every so gorgeous and funny Lucille Ball. I particularly loved when Lucille ball wore button down collared shirts or cardigans tucked into a pleated or A line skirt. Well today I mimicked this iconic style, while still keeping it currant. Here's how:

I started with a black button down cardigan.....

Then I pinned on a red flower brooch to the cardigan to dress it up a bit and give it that lady like touch....

Next I paired the cardigan with a long, high waist-ed pleated skirt in gray and a skinny leather black belt

Lastly I added a pair of black flats... you could also do heels but since I am always carrying a baby so I need something a bit more comfortable....

Today's Style Inspiration.....

When getting dressed I sometimes look to classic icons for some inspiration. Today when I was going through my closet, the ever so beautiful Audrey Hepburn popped into my head. Not just any image of her..... but this iconic one. Audrey is one of the greatest and most fashionable ladies to draw inspiration from. Here is a few current and inexpensive pieces that are reminiscent of this classic look that I wore today:

Short Hair and Dresses Done Right.......

So now that the initial shock of my newly sheared do has set in.... I am on to the next task at hand, figuring out how to wear a dress with my new short hair without looking akward. Anyone who knows me will tell you that when it comes to dresses I almost always gravitate toward an A line cut. This is for two reasons. The first is I find it extremely flattering and feminine as well as very reminiscent of the dresses of the 40's and 50's. The other is because I am pear shaped and this cut flatters my body the best. Another thing about me that most people know is that I am not one to really wear jewelry, my wedding ring, earrings and the occasional statement ring is pretty much as far as it goes. Surprisingly this works to my advantage since short hair can looked forced and overpowered by too much jewelry. Michelle Williams has executed the "short hair and a dress," perfectly! The key to her effortless style? Feminine cuts, minimal jewelry and natural makeup. Sheer perfection..... and yes right up my alley!

Rita Hayworth.....

So as I post this I am watching one of the greatest movies ever... Gilda. Rita Hayworth is by far one of my most favorite actresses and classic "bombshells." If you have never seen it, you have to go out and rent it now.... I promise you, you won't be disappointed.

Stating the facts....

Is anyone else out there sick of seeing the size 0 models and actresses? When this came up in a recent conversation I had with a friend, I immediately began thinking about all of the most beautiful iconic woman of the last century. Wanna know an apsolute fact? All of them had the same thing in common, they were real woman. Not following me yet? Okay here is a great example, Marilyn Monroe was a size 10, not a 0. And every last inch of her, except the platnum blond hair, was real not silicone. When did the world decide that woman like Marilyn was unattractive because she was a size 10? I rest my case.

Actress of the Week....

So my pick for actress of the week is the gorgeous Ms. Audrey Hepburn. Really I don't think she needs any kind of introduction, but I have recently come to realize that there are still people out there whom don't know who she is. A simple quick explanation is this, she was an actress made famous particularly in the 60's. She was also a fashion icon of her time coming just on the brink of the voluptuous blond bombshells of the fifties. Although she was in a slew of great movies, she is almost always most remembered for her role in Breakfast at Tiffany's, (which happens to be my personal favorite). She sadly passed away in 1993 at the age of 64. If you have not made yourself familiar with her work please go out and rent one of her films, I promise you, you will not be dissapointed.
